Chris Paul?

There's something wrong happening in the nba today. I went to Espn and there was a poll that said who was the mid-season MVP right now and Chris Paul was on that list. Now here's the question. If Chris Paul is that good enough to be one of the candidates for MVP then why isn't he even close to get voted in the all-star game. I mean fan voting is cool unless people know what to do. I hope the West coach selects Chris Paul as one of the reserves.

well the hornets don't get a lot of screentime and unless you follow basketball pretty closely, you wouldn't know too much about paul. he has not had any serious playoff encounters( i don't think he's had any), and he isn't really a marketable player yet. but all the experts are saying he's amazing and his numbers defintiely show that for a young 3-4 yr player, he's having an AMAZING year. fan voting is popularity not skill.

the all star game is the peoples choice. its not a ranking of the best players in the league. its entertainment from the most exciting nba players around. and chris paul is playing like an all star
NBA League Pass is great for watching ALL of the NBA games. Chris Paul is someone who has stuck out as a very promising player since he came into the league. I really enjoy watching him get better and better.

The fan voting is usually based on popularity and/or familiar names. The coaches with their consensus selection is based on talent, skill and leadership. I would be shocked if Chris Paul didn't make the coaches reserves list.
West has a lot of very good and more popular guards than him like Steve Nash, Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, Tony Parker, etc. It is so tough to get higher votes than those guys. Paul is playing great i have to agree w/ that. He is playing in MVP level, but again...also Kobe. Nash is still the best PG in the game. There are a lot of other players who are more popular than him and that matters in All-Star game since fans chose the players. Paul w/o a doubt is the future of NBA. When Nash and Kidd retires, he will be the best PG in the NBA.

-Bill Russell (the greatest winner) tried with the Sonics and Kings and failed, Ironically "Lenny Wilkens" guided Seattle to a championship two years later

-Bob Cousy tried the Cincinnati Royals and failed 141-209 record

-Dave Cowens stint with the Hornets failed but did well with them @ first, 2 50+ season's

-Wes Unseld failed with the Bullets (started out well but just plain failed)

The only 3 good coach's that came out of the 50 greatest List (in my mind) Jerry West (if u know the history behind it), Larry Bird---------at least taking his team to the Finals, and Lenny Wilkins who is the winningest coach in NBA History......but never won a title as a coach??

I believe Russell did pretty well as a player-coach for the Boston Celtics.

Part of the problem is that a coach has to be a disciplinarian/father figure, not one of the boys.

From what I read, Russell used to let his coaches run practices, while he read the paper. Luckily, he had good coaches while he was at Boston.
Michael Jordan couldn't win as a player either (until Pippen came along to lead him). What makes you think he'd win as a coach!?

I hope they show the number of viewers in the next few days, easily this must have been the most watched game of the season, and probably since the last postsseason, everybody knows what a bust the Finals were. The Nielsen ratings are so outdated that in reality it doesn't mean anything. How many people watched this in sportsbar, over at a friend's house, at work, or streaming video on the internet. I would say over 50% of fans watched this in one of these venues and yet none of them are measured by Nielsen ratings.

Lebron is not mvp?

If Lebron wins the mvp this year it totally takes away what the mvp award is supposed to be now a days and that's the best player on a team that has a great regular season record and Lebron doesn't quailify then. Being around 10 games over 500 in the weak east is nothing special. The mvp race should be between Kobe,Chris Paul, and Kevin Garnett. Who's gonna win mvp and would you rather have the nba go back to individual performance or stay with team record for the mvp?

People dont realize that the last person to avg 27+ 7+ 7+ in pts reb and ast was Jordan, and he came in second in the MVP voting to Magic who averaged 22 pts 13 ast and 8 reb.... the last person to avg 27-7-7 before that was Oscar Robertson... thats some good company... So my beef is that if Kobe should win it... has he played better than Magics 22-13-8 year?? also the Lakers went 63-19 that year..... Kobe is a great player and should have won the MVP in the past... but that is no reason to handicap his season this year... that title should go to LeBron or Garnett

The rule isn't written on paper, but everyone knows it. To be a legitimate candidate for MVP, your team has to win at least 50 games. Only winner not to do that was Moses Malone back in the '80's. Lebron's Cavs are 4th in the East and they wont make it to 50 wins, what kind of leadership is that? You're in the East for God's sake. I respect Lebron's INDIVIDUAL performance of going 31-8-7, but you gotta get the W's man. I really dont see why not Kobe wont win the MVP, unless the voters favor Chris Paul.
Kobe is going to win the MVP this year. What people don't realize is that there are a lot of politics that go into the award and in a lot of ways it's a popularity contest. Kobe is a popular pick this year because he has yet to win it.

I do think that your team has to be a legitimate contender in order to be considered for MVP. I think awarding it based on individual performance would force us to call it the Kobe award because he would win it every year.

The MVP is NOT to the person that is the best player, it goes to the MOST VALUABLE player. It doesn't go with team record and never has. There have been numerous MVPs on teams that didn't have the best record (Moses won in 1981 and his team was 42-42). With that criteria in mind, I think it'll go to one of the other two you mentioned or LeBron, NOT Kobe because Kobe is all about Kobe and will get his at the expense of the other players on his team.
Where in MVP does it say your team has to have a great record. The award is for the most valueable player on his team. Whether that be Kobe or Lebron will be decided with the rest of the season. But the fact your team has to be the best in the league also is ridiculous.

Al Horford!?

I was wondering if anyone else thinks that Al Horford is a complete a$$h*** first of all what he did to TJ Ford in the begining of the season, that was completly uncalled for an intentional then tonight (game 3 celtics vs hawks) paul peirce gets tripped up and fell and Al Horford decides to go up in his face and talk sh*t when they were up by 12 with 20 seconds left or whatever. I am a celtics fan and dont think I'm saying all this because I'm mad they lost... I had respect for the guy when he came into the NBA, until he hit TJ Ford like that and then when I saw him talk sh*t to a veteran on my team I just lost it. A rookie should know to keep his mouth shut and I hope Johnson and Bibby teach him that in the locker room tonight. The guy can play basketball dont get me wrong but he has not earned the respect from the fans or any of the players to be doing these types of things. (They kick the backs of Avery and Stack鈥檚 seats.)

Stack: What are we gonna do? Shall we just move?

Avery (Getting up and turning toward the two young DFW media members): That won't be necessary.

Are the Heat throwing games to get a very high pick?

I've speculated that they knew Shaq was finished and wanted to replace him...like right away. I'm just wondering if they are trashing this season to get a spectacular pick. All they need is one good player and they're back in the mix. However, I think Wade is probably still suffering from last year's injury, he's halfway good enough to carry the team, when healthy.

Then again, Shaq seems to be the kiss of death for many NBA teams. Phoenix has been one setting sun ever since he came on board...

Heat aren't throwing games. They are still trying to compete each and every game they play. They still have 2 great players in Marion and Wade. The supporting cast is very well in doubt. They are now experimenting on different lineups to know which players to keep for next seasons campaign. They'll get a high pick regardless if they don't intentionally loss there games.

Regarding the Shaq trade lets see first what the Phoenix Suns will do in the playoffs then you be the judge of the Shaq deal as a bust or not. The evaluation for that trade is whether the Suns win it all or not (Championship).

I hope not because you can't throw away games and expect to get the number one pick any more. Because it will all depend on the ping pong balls. And then I think Memphis may be doing the same thing and it is a whole lot easier to lose in the west then it is in the east. But like someone answered before, Boston tried to do it last year and it did not work out too well for them. But then I guess it was a good thing too because if they would have got the number 1 pick I don't think they would have made those trades.
what are you talking about shaq is kiss of death for many nba teams? he played for 3 teams up until get traded, winning championships with 2 of them... and the only reason he didnt win one in orlando was because he was a rookie and had no support cast.... anyway, whats the focus of your question? are you trying to bash shaq or ask about the heat throwing games? the heat aren't throwing games, if they are, then their fans (which are down to about 4-6 thousand per game) will show even greater disregard for the team..... the team just plain sucks, there's no passion, no chemistry, no anything..... it may look like their throwing games, but in fact, they are just the worst team in the nba right now.....

I agree in everything you said. Wade still looks quite injured, and Shaq is just misery, a waste of money. But still, I don't think Miami would get #1. Boston didn't get it last year, right?

aside from Wade and Marion, there's really a big talent gap in the Heat lineup. Wade is still indeed suffering him his surgeries and i think he should rest. no use prolonging his recovery time or endangering him of getting injured again. Riley already has said it, most of the players have already given up on the season and aren't even trying to play decently anymore. time to mix the lineup up again. start with Wade and Marion. if Riley can convince the Clips to let go of Brand, then Haslem can be let go.
